Lane Change Assist
Lane Change Assist (LCA) is an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) designed to support drivers when making lane changes and to help reduce the risk of collisions caused by vehicles in blind spots. The system uses rear radar sensors positioned in the back corners of the vehicle, along with two control units and an integrated radar sensor, to monitor adjacent lanes and detect approaching vehicles.
When a potential hazard is identified, LCA can alert the driver through visual, audible, or haptic warnings, giving them the opportunity to react and avoid a collision. Some systems go a step further by actively assisting with steering and speed control to safely complete a lane change, providing additional confidence and control in complex traffic situations.
LCA is becoming increasingly common across many car brands as a key safety feature, particularly on highways and busy roads where blind spot incidents are more likely. It is important to note that the system should be professionally calibrated after repairs, sensor replacement, or significant vehicle maintenance to ensure accurate performance.
